Hallowed Dallas Philanthropist Dies, Leaving Behind a Legacy of Mega Giving

BY // 10.21.15

Leader, legend and friend: It is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to someone who has been a graceful pillar for Dallas, Mrs. William W. Winspear.

Margot to those who knew her best, this grand dame was no doubt a game changer. Her tireless efforts aimed at expanding the city’s performing arts community were nothing short of praiseworthy. Dedicated to her love for music, Winspear, 83, was a longtime member of The Dallas Opera Board. She, along with her late husband, Bill Winspear, made an extraordinary $42 million dollar donation to The Dallas Opera, helping launch the building of the AT&T Performing Arts Center.

She worked hard to make a difference in the community by providing creative outlets for young, emerging artists, helping them carve a path and make their own mark on the community. Her tenacity, smile and generosity will be undeniably missed — but we know that her final notes will live on forever.
