Love and Shopping Take Center Stage in an Arty New Fort Worth Development

A New Iconic Sculpture for Texas?

BY Sally Tamez-Martinez // 07.18.17

Fort Worth’s WestBend district continues to grow — gelato shop Popbar, Warby Parker, SusieCakes, and Bartaco are all slated to make their Fort Worth debut at the mixed-use development  in September.

Now, it’s ready to fête its thriving public art program with a selfie-sharing party playfully dubbed #WESTBENDLOVE Snap & Seek.

Twelve new pieces have been added to the already existing collection, featuring 10 murals by Dallas-based artist Kyle Steed; a sculpture by San Francisco-based artist Laura Kimpton; and Fort Worth artist Lauren Childs‘ debut mural.

Kimpton’s steel “LOVE” sculpture is perhaps the most selfie-worthy. The best part about this installation? Not only can you enjoy it during the day, but also at night when the LED lights that are incorporated into it illuminate in a variety of different colors.

“I hope people will respond with an open and calm mind and a sense of stillness,” says Steed of the artworks that bring a pop of color and personality to WestBend.

“Even at a subconscious level where most of our world affects us, I hope that my drawings left on the walls will create a space of quiet and calm collectiveness in the person who sees them.”

WestBend’s public art program kicks off with a party on Thursday, July 20 at 7 pm. Head to the 6th level (top floor) of the parking garage for a Polaroid scavenger hunt, frozen treats, the chance to win prizes, and meet-and-greets with the artists who created the murals and sculptures displayed throughout the district.
