World’s Largest Airline to Open a New $250 Million Hotel in Fort Worth

American Airlines Plans to Convert Old Flight Attendant School Into a Hospitality Mecca

BY // 06.05.19

Fort Worth is getting a brand new hotel and conference center from an unlikely source. American Airlines is building a $250 million hotel on its Fort Worth campus that will have 600 rooms and a conference and training center. As the “heart” of the airline’s headquarters, the new digs are being built to accommodate a rapidly growing workforce.

Office space, retail and the hotel will take over 620,000 square feet of building. The hotel will also boast restaurants, a tavern, and the 131,000 square foot conference and training center. The old building, which was American’s flight attendant school, has been around since 1957 and is due for a remodel.

The new headquarters will accommodate 130,000 employees, with the first group moving in within the next two weeks. The rest will follow over the summer. Unfortunately, the hospitality complex will only be for American Airlines employees.

Replacing the old Lodge, the complex will be where employees who live outside of Dallas-Fort Worth will reside while attending training. They’ll have access to a fitness center and in-house clinic, as well.

The 300 acre lot will have walkable trails and bicycles scattered around. There will also be parking garages with more than 10,000 spaces, but they are meant to be where employees park their cars and leave them for the rest of the day. The walkable aspect is designed to encourage collaboration and old fashioned movement.

Construction is set to begin later this summer. Plans call for American Airlines’ new headquarters to be completed in mid-2021.

American Airlines is already the largest airline in the world. Now, it will have a headquarters (and hotel) to match that.
