Big Wine Bonus: This California Cabernet Sauvignon Is Worth Any Slight Sticker Shock

BY // 08.21.15

California is a big state, and, as we all know, produces some of the best wines in the world. From the obvious Cabernet Sauvignon to some great Pinot Noir and Chardonnay (not to mention Petit Verdot and Mourvèdre), the state produces something for everyone.

Jordan Winery is located in California, and I recently had another taste of the estate’s 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon, much to my delight. I had made some beef cheeks the day before and wanted to drink something a bit substantial with them, so the Jordan came to mind. It was a great choice. You get tobacco and cherry, and if you open the bottle about an hour before dinner you’ll be happy with this vintage.

It paired perfectly with the rich dish, and was never in danger of tasting washed out by the strong flavors of the beef. Jordan wines is widely available in retail outlets, or you can order this particular vintage from the winery for $53.

An inexpensive wine? No, but you can cellar the 2011 until 2024 or so, and if you open one this weekend your dining companions will be treated with a kindness that they’ll remember for a good while.
