Bumble Goes from Dating to Business — Watch Out LinkedIn: Female-First App Keeps Women in Charge

BY // 10.02.17

We didn’t think we’d ever find ourselves saying this, but it’s time to upload your resumé to Bumble. The female-first app isn’t just for dating or making new BFFs anymore – it’s a one-stop-shop for taking care of business.

Today Bumble launched Bumble Bizz, a new section of the social network for building professional connections. Like regular Bumble, Bizz will use a swiping system to match users, but users will have separate profiles from the dating and friendship section of the app (thankfully).

The most intriguing part of Bumble’s new business networking platform is that it puts women in charge. In male-female matches, the woman must reach out first. Bumble CEO and Founder Whitney Wolfe Herd told TIME why she wanted to keep the female-first policy in Bumble Bizz.

“I think a lot of women to this day struggle with feeling respected and feeling like an equal when it comes to business connection,” she said. “They feel that sometimes when they’re approaching something in a purely platonic or business connection, they feel like the conversation goes in a different direction.”

The 27-year-old tech mogul and SMU alumni was a co-founder of the dating app Tinder before founding Bumble in 2014. The platform now has more than 20 million users.

Bumble Bizz is launching with impressive partners including Girlboss, Homepolish, Zola, PR Net and Wishi. Local ladies like Tina Craig of Bag Snob and Suzanne Droese of Droese PR have already shown love for the revolutionary networking app.

“We’ve stayed focused on creating a community with a foundation built upon positivity, respect, confidence and encouraging women to make the first move. We now do this across all facets of their lives,” Wolfe Herd said in a statement.

The same way Bumble has worked to eliminate creepy, inappropriate behavior from dating and friendship platforms, Bizz will help keep women feeling safe and comfortable in professional networking.

User profiles will include profile photos, a digital resume, a skills section, and examples of work. There will also be a photo verification tool designed to help prevent any catfishing.

“Love, friendship, networking – these are all critical connections and the foundation of a healthy, happy life. We want to bring you closer to all of these connections, in an empowered way,” Wolfe Herd said.

The growing company recently built seriously stylish headquarters in Austin. Take a look.
