Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony Are Already Ferrari Bonding

It Always Helps to Have a Car Buddy — a Fast Start for New Look Rockets?

The new-look (for better or for worse) Houston Rockets opened their season with a dud against the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday night. But Chris Paul and new addition Carmelo Anthony got to Ferrari bond the night before.

Paul and Anthony — who’s been close friends for years — went to Game 3 of the American League Championship Series together. Paul did the driving, in his sweet black Ferrari — just one in his impressive fleet of cars.

Anthony road shotgun — and in this car, there is not room for a third.

The two longtime NBA stars drove into the VIP Diamond Club parking lot, right in the back of Minute Maid Park and spent a little time interacting with fans before slipping into an entrance. Carmelo Anthony may have a rep for being a little surly with the media (he loves when you ask him about coming off the bench for the first time in his career), but he proved to be plenty accommodating to regular Houston sports fans.

He happily posed for several selfies before going inside the Astros’ ballpark. Of course, Melo was wearing one of his signature hoodies (the outfit he infamously even wears on the beach). Paul, almost always the most polished celebrity in the room, added a backwards Astros cap to his own outfit. That’s a pro’s pro touch.

Chris Paul always knows his audience.

The NBA’s reigning regular season MVP James Harden also went to Game 3 of Red Sox-Astros and sat with his teammates. But Harden rolled into the game with his own entourage. Hey, it’s not like there was any more room in Paul’s Ferrari.

While many are doubting if a 34-year-old Anthony’s impact will be positive on the Rockets, his biggest name teammates remain devout believers in his ability. Even if a 19-point home loss on opening night to the New Orleans Pelicans will only increase the outside howling.

“Obviously I’m a little biased because that’s one of my closest friends,” Paul said on ESPN’s NBA show, The Jump. “But you know, the disrespect that comes at (Carmelo) at times is unbelievable, you know what I mean?

“So for us, having one of the best players to ever play the game on our team, that’s a no-brainer.”

Paul also gets someone else he can hang out with. It’s good to have a Ferrari buddy.
