Dallas Prosecutor Fired After Losing it on Uber Ride, Accusing Driver of Kidnapping: Incident Caught on Video, Fallen Lawyer Insists There is More to Story

Dallas County Assistant District Attorney Jody Warner was fired after she berated an Uber driver over the weekend — and accused him of kidnapping her. The 32-year-old lawyer was getting a ride home from the Capitol Pub bar late Friday night when she allegedly hit, insulted and threatened the driver, 26-year-old Shaun Platt.

Platt said he called the police and began recording the encounter after Warner slapped his shoulder and threatened him.

After some issues with directions, an apparently intoxicated Warner can be heard repeatedly cursing and insulting the driver in the recording, calling him “stupid,” “idiot” and “a legitimate retard.” The lawyer accused Platt of kidnapping her, at which point he pulled over and asked her to leave his car. She refused and continued to insult him, holding her job over his head.

“You’re so stupid I want the cops to come so that they can f— you up… Everything is being recorded, I’m an Assistant District Attorney, so shut the f*** up,” she says in the audio recording. 

After investigation, Dallas District Attorney Faith Johnson fired the lawyer on Monday.

“Although criminal charges have not been filed, her behavior is contrary to this office’s core principle of integrity, and it will not be tolerated,” Johnson said in a statement. “As public servants, we represent the people of Dallas County and are examples of justice, professionalism, and ethical behavior both inside and outside of the courtroom. I will not waiver on my expectation of the highest integrity for myself or my staff.”

Following her termination, Warner issued the following apologetic statement to Good Morning America:

“I cringe whenever I hear or think about the things that I said that night. It was unacceptable, and no one deserves to be called names. That being said, the audio doesn’t tell you that I was in a situation that made me feel very uncomfortable and I became defensive and eventually angry. I NEVER assaulted my driver or touched him in any way. All I wanted to do was get home safely that night.”

Warner’s out of a job now – but hey, maybe she can join Amy Witherite’s law firm.
