10 Best Things to do in Dallas This Weekend — Bastille Day Mania and Khalid Rule

Dallas weekends are packed full of events, but how many of them are truly worthy of your time? PaperCity‘s new events calendar offers a curated look at all of the best things to do in the area. But everyone can still use an expert.

Celebrate Bastille Day

The Bishop Arts District is celebrating all things French with this year’s Bastille on Bishop. Starting at 5 pm on Sunday, July 14, the free festival will have you roaming local shops, drinking Champagne and dancing in the streets. You can buy a ticket package that includes a wine glass and tokens, redeemable for food and drink. To consume alcohol at the festival, you must have an event wine glass.

Also taking place during Bastille on Bishop is Revelers Hall’s VIP Party. The party starts at 6 pm with live music, libations and snacks. A $80 VIP ticket includes three free drinks, snacks from a buffet and a live show at the new music venue. You can go in and out until 9 pm and the location is a prime people watching spot on Bishop.

Acclaimed Dallas sushi restaurant, Uchi, is also celebrating the holiday with a Bastille + Bubbles Champagne Dinner. The event is from 6 pm to 9 pm on Sunday and includes a dinner featuring pairings from Ruinart and Krug Champagne. The six course dinner costs $195 per a person and comes with a dishes prepared by Chef Alex and fun facts provided by Champagne specialist Merideth Gray.

Legacy Hall in Plano is throwing a Bastille Day bash on Sunday, July 14 with music, French food pairings, Champagne, mimes, accordion players, can-can dancers, and more. From 11 am to 11 pm, there will be tons of festivities to celebrate the French holiday. The Box Garden will have an Eiffel Tower photo booth and there will be a Johnny Rodriguez Parisian photo-op from 6 pm to 8 pm. Tickets for the Champagne Lounge & Pairing are available here.

Catch a Concert

Khalid is the big show coming to American Airlines Center this weekend. The Texas-native will be performing on Sunday, July 14 at 7:30 pm. For the singer’s Free Spirit World Tour North American leg, he’ll have Clairo (current hit is “Bags”) as an opening act. Originally from El Paso, the 21-year-old singer songwriter broke out in 2016 with his single “Location.” Since then, Khalid has come out with two albums and has toured with Lorde.

Also on the docket for music this weekend is The Head and the Heart at Toyota Music Factory. On Friday, July 12, the folksy indie band will go on stage at 8 pm. The group is returning with their fourth album, Living Mirage, which features their newest single “Missed Connection.”

Gaining popularity with a self-released classics like “River and Roads” and “Lost In My Mind” in 2011, the band has topped the rock album charts, played in several festivals, and appeared on many late night shows. This will be a good show to sit back, relax and enjoy some tunes.

British rapper, 21 Savage, is coming to Southside Ballroom this Saturday night at 8 pm. The 26-year-old first gained notice when he was featured on Post Malone’s “Rockstar” in 2017. In 2018, he released his second album, I Am > I Was, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. Almost getting deported early this year for outstaying his visa, the rap star has made a comeback with a summer tour.

21 Savage’s Dallas tour date will be supported by Young Nudy & Calboy. General Admission tickets cost $55.

Sports!

SportsCon, aka “Comic-Con for Sports,” is coming to Dallas this weekend from July 12 through July 14. The event takes place in the Automobile Building at Fair Park and will include over 150 pro athletes. It’s the ultimate experience that brings players from all sports together for three days filled with fan interaction, live games and sports challenges.

Player headliners include Dallas Cowboys stars Zeke Elliot, Amari Cooper and “Tank” Lawrence. NFL stars Melvin Gordon, Dez Bryant and Johnny Manziel will also be there. Basketball Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman, MLB Hit King Pete Rose and boxing world champion Shawn Porter will also be in attendance.

Carnival for a Cure

This Saturday from noon to 4 pm, D Magazine Young Leaders Network and The One Society invite all to a carnival benefiting Children’s Health. Come enjoy carnival food and drinks, music by DJ Miss Genafire, a photo booth, raffles, games and contests at The Grove at Harwood. General admission cost $25 and includes one boozy snow cone and a choice of hamburger or hot dog. One hundred percent of the proceeds will be donated to The One Society, which will also benefit the single gene therapy program. Patient families get in free.

Meet Some Chickens

At the Dallas Farmers Market this Saturday, you’ll be able to meet the chickens and learn more about them. Little Farmers will start at 11 am at Mama Ida’s Teaching Garden. The garden offers custom-designed educational programs for all ages and was named after local legend Ida Papert. She began shopping at the farmers market in 1953 and formed the Dallas Farmers Market Friends. To honor Ida’s memory, the garden offers youngsters and adults learning experiences about farming and more.
