Legit Restaurants, a Pet Hotel and Billions in New Terminals Make a World of Difference

Air Transport World, a leading monthly global airline magazine, just named DFW International Airport its “Airport of the Year.” This major airline industry award recognizes the airport’s growth, as well as its many enhancements that make flying easier for passengers.

DFW CEO Sean Donohue calls it the airport equivalent of winning an Oscar while Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings compares it to winning the Super Bowl.

The award givers praise the fact that “DFW has transformed into a global mega-hub.” Anyone who has been to DFW lately is already aware of the constant improvement in “facilities, infrastructure, and technologies” that the airport has invested in.

“DFW is experiencing the fastest growth in more than a decade, and we see it as an opportunity to welcome the world to the Dallas Fort Worth region and advance the innovation and collaboration that deliver for our customers and make our communities stronger,” Donohue says in statement.

I’m not at all surprised that DFW has been crowned the winner of all of the airports. It’s huge and luxurious. I could live there for a week. You have everything you need to survive.

For food, there are more than 70 options, including Shake Shack, Qdoba, and Maggiano’s. There’s also a place just for cereal called Cereality. That’d be worth a trip to the airport even without a flight, at least for me.

You could also spend an entire day of shopping at DFW. Kate Spade, Hugo Boss, Montblanc, Michael Kors and a Dallas Cowboys Pro Shop (of course) are just a few of the stores. There’s also a Dylan’s Candy Bar store, which always reels me in in every city I go to with its Willy Wonka-esque vibes.

There are lounges, hair salons, workstations, a pet hotel, a yoga studio and showers. They’ve got it all to get you through the day.

I love any time I get to travel out of DFW. The Skylink Train is a ride, especially when your terminal changes last minute and you must sprint to the train, hop on for your new destination, and hold onto the railing for dear life so you don’t fall on anyone else around you. It’s exhilarating. But I digress.

DFW International Airport is really being honored for its ability to keep prices low for airlines, while serving passengers at expert level. As the fourth largest airport in the country, it has invested billions of dollars in its new terminals. It also added nine new international flight destinations last year, as well as 28 new overall destinations, offering more domestic flights than any other airport in the United States.
