Houston’s Hottest New Restaurants: Eight Spots You Need To Eat At Now

BY // 05.13.16

Editor’s note: The Houston restaurant scene is constantly changing, with new hotspots, must-try places and major culinary events coming along on a daily basis. Even the most dedicated eater can have trouble keeping up; but don’t worry, PaperCity has you covered.

CHERRY PIE TAKEOVER
Bearded restaurant dynamo Lee Ellis’ new restaurant group Cherry Pie Hospitality is debuting with a bang, acquiring two more restaurants to accompany Ellis’ eponymous Lee’s Fried Chicken and Donuts and West Alabama bakery Petite Sweets.

Ellis transforms Bradley Ogden’s Pour Society, stationed at 947 Gessner Road, into Southern restaurant State Fare. With chef Jim Mills at the helm, the concept churns out a Texas-centric menu with dishes like housemade barbecue chips and dill pickle dip, Jimmy’s Texas red beef chili, smoked double-cut pork chop and variations of Ellis’ beloved macaroni and cheese.

Ellis also partners with Anthony Calleo‘s Pi Pizza truck to launch Pi’s first brick-and-mortar location under the CPH umbrella. The new pizzeria features some of the truck’s most famed concoctions — including its beloved Sopressata Rolls — alongside an array of appetizers, salads, sandwiches and desserts. Pi Pizza is slated to open this summer at 181 Heights Boulevard.

FOOD TRUCK TRANSITION
Jason Hill (former partner in Hugs & Donuts) also transitions his Luv Me Tenders food truck into a brick-and-mortar outpost. The chicken tender restaurant takes over Treadsack Restaurant Group’s former Kipper Club Test Kitchen at 4400 North Yale Street.

POPS PARTY
Alabama-based Steel City Pops brings its all-natural, organic frozen treats to Houston this June with its first location at 420 East 20th Street. The gourmet popsicle brand, which showcases flavors like raspberry lemon, avocado, coffee, vanilla chocolate chip and cherry sour cream, operates 12 locations across Alabama, Kentucky and Texas.
