Houston’s Own Jim Parsons Gives his Teacher Mom and Sister the Sweetest Tribute Ever: $1 Million Per Episode Superstar Never Forgets Home

BY // 06.19.17

Jim Parsons is one of those rare celebrities who never seems to forget what it’s like to be a normal person. Even as Parsons pulls in $1 million per episode for the Big Bang Theory and draws critical acclaim for high-profile side projects, he never strays into diva territory.

Part of this can no doubt be attributed to Parson’s Houston upbringing. And the 44-year-old, newly-married actor paid tribute to that upbringing in the sweetest way possible.

With Parsons’ mom and sister retiring as teachers on the same day from the Klein Independent School District, Parsons took to Instagram to praise the two most important women in his life. “Congrats to my mom and my sister, two of the hardest working, most devoted teachers one could ever know,” Parsons wrote. “Today they cleaned the final files and books out of the first grade classroom they have shared for 11 years as they both retire from the teaching field. My mom taught for 41 years in total, my sister for 19.”

Parson goes on to note the thousands of lives that his mother Judy Ann Parsons and his sister Julie Ann Parsons touched during their teaching careers — and then sends them off with about the perfect closing line ever. Especially for hard-working teachers.

“Now go get margaritas, both of you!” Jim Parsons writes.

The post features a picture of Parsons’ mom and sister sitting together on a bench in front of Mittelstadt Elementary School in Spring, where they taught together for more than a decade. Now, that’s being a good brother and son.

Retirement gifts don’t get much sweeter than this. Of course, Parsons’ mom and sister would likely let him spring for a monster round of margaritas too.

Parsons has long praised his Houston roots, coming back home for a fundraiser for Catastrophic Theatre (which grew out of the Infernal Bridegroom Productions group that Parsons helped found), touting the city in tourism ads and even begging then-prized-free-agent Dwight Howard to join the Houston Rockets in a funny video.

This is someone who clearly hasn’t forgotten where he comes from.

Parsons is a Hollywood star and a University of Houston and Klein Oak High School (Class of 1991) graduate. Not necessarily in that order. For Parsons, Houston always seems to be close to his thoughts (and heart).
