Who Says You Need Bourbon Street?

BY // 02.26.19

It’s hard to believe, but it’s almost time for Mardi Gras, one of the most festive and fun holidays out there. If you can’t make it to Bourbon Street this year, Dallas is still a pretty great place to celebrate Mardi Gras.

There’s so much going on in each pocket of the city from block parties to parades. The epic, boisterous options for a Dallas Mardi Gras are almost endless.

Don’t worry — PaperCity has compiled a list to make it a little bit easier to narrow down what the best options are for an authentic local Mardi Gras. Get your crawfish, Hurricanes and beads galore at any of these places. Laissez les bon temps rouler!

Oak Cliff

Saturday, March 2

If you want to burn some extra calories before partaking in Mardi Gras festivities, sign up for Dash For The Beads, a 5k and 10k run, in North Oak Cliff. The route begins and ends at 700 W. Canty Street. The race is followed by a costume contest for people and their furry friends. The event also raises funds for education, beautification and development in Oak Cliff and neighborhood schools. Get ready to sweat and support a good cause.

The Free Man’s Mardi Gras March is a fun way to start the night out in Deep Ellum. Every year, the Commerce St. restaurant gets a 30-piece brass band and marches through Deep Ellum before festivities kick off at The Free Man for the night. The march will kick off around 6:30 pm.

Or attend Pardi Gras at House of Blues, where DJ Mannie Fresh will be performing in the Cambridge Room. A Bourbon street replica will be created with street performers, food vendors, outdoor beer gardens and beads, beads and more beads.

High Fives is celebrating the Fattest of Tuesdays from 6pm to 2am with crawfish catered by Krio, a combination of great crawdads to eat and great crawdads to race for a big cash prize. Two pounds of crawfish will only set you back $20 — plus corn, sausage and potatoes for a little extra.

Get there early to pick out your crawfish to race at 9 pm. Entries for the tournament run $10. DJ Fishr Pryce will spin some tunes to set the mood.

And you can enjoy Hand Grenade and Hurricane drink specials all day long.
