A New German Beer Garden Is Headed to The Heights: From Pearland With Bratwurst

BY // 05.24.16

While Houston’s restaurant scene is diverse, German cuisine is underrepresented. Johann “Hans” Sitter, owner of German-Austrian restaurant King’s Biergarten, wants to change that.

With the help of his son, Phillip, Sitter plans to open a restaurant in The Heights, at 2044 East TC Jester Boulevard (formerly Pecos Grill). The concept will be similar to Sitter’s booming Pearland eatery, which entertains an average of 15,000 customers a month with theater, live music, beer and German fare.

Though this may be Sitter’s first venture inside the loop, the Austrian native is no stranger to rapid growth. He debuted King’s Biergarten in 2009 after transforming a modest carwash into a 45-seat restaurant. With only eight employees, the restaurant swelled into a biergarten behemoth now seating 350 guests and employing more than 60 people. Did I mention this all happened in two years?

The father-and-son duo have yet to choose a name for the Heights restaurant, but what they do promise is massive amounts of beer and bratwurst for the city of Houston.
