The Wait’s Over!

Shake Shack Sets Its Houston Opening Date — and It’s a Very Nice Surprise

BY // 10.28.16

The burgers are coming and crinkle fries too. Following months of anticipation, Shake Shack has revealed its official Houston opening date — Friday, November 4 at 11 am.

The New York-based burger chain’s new Galleria digs border the mall’s first free-standing jewel box structure, which houses Miami-based boutique The Webster and future dim sum restaurant Yauatcha.

While many projected that the brand’s first Houston location would open much later this year, we can’t say we’re too surprised by the announcement. Shake Shack teased Houstonians with a one-day-only pop-up at The Pass and Provisions Sunday, October 16, introducing locals to its signature ShackBurgers and crinkle fries. Now, merely two weeks later, the beloved chain will make its official debut in the Bayou City.

The Houston space embodies Shake Shack’s commitment to sustainable design starting with a living moss wall at the restaurant’s entry created by Austin-based Articulture Designs. Tabletops fashioned from reclaimed bowling alley lanes courtesy New York-based CounterEvolution; New York-based Uhuru chairs designed with responsible materials; booths by Staach, a New York furniture brand utilizing lumber certified by the Forestry Stewardship Council; and lighting by Austin-based Warbach fill the prime Galleria real estate.

Shake Shack’s full menu of burgers (and chicken sandwiches), hot dogs, frozen custard (shakes, scoops, and concretes), dog treats, and libations will be available alongside a number of Texas and Houston exclusives starting with the Lockhart Link Burger — a cheeseburger topped with Texas’ own Kreuz Market jalapeño and cheese sausage link, pickles, and ShackSauce.

Shake Shack’s concretes (custard blended with mix-ins) also receive a local jolt with the Cup|cake Crunch, which utilizes Fluff Bake Bar‘s devil’s food cake mixed with vanilla custard, fudge sauce, pretzel crunch, and caramel buttercream; the Vietnamese Coffee and Donuts spinning a Morningstar COP donut and Greenway Coffee‘s café su dua marshmallow sauce with frozen custard; and the Post Oak Pie Oh My, which pairs Fluff Bake Bar’s seasonal pie with vanilla custard.
