Travel Woes Begone!

Planes of the Future to Bring Luxury Back to the Sky — More Legroom, Real Internet

BY // 04.07.16

Social media continues to alter the way we offer and consume information. From breaking news on Facebook and Twitter to gathering intel on Instagram, social media’s influence seems to have no bounds. So why not use it to dictate the future of air travel?

Aircraft manufacturer Airbus did precisely that, scouring social media for concerns, complaints and airline comparisons from frequent travelers. The company used the feedback to create its latest airplane model, Airspace.

Some of the top travel woes included insufficient overhead space, a lack of built-in broadband service, lackluster ambient lighting and less-than-stellar lavatories. The result is a state-of-the-art cabin that, as the name implies, gives travelers a lot more space.

“Airspace is how Airbus will brand its interiors from now on,” explains vice president of strategy and marketing Dr. Kiran Rao. “We want passengers to get on and think ‘This is an Airspace cabin’.”

And what can customers expect from the new cabin? For starters, increased overhead space and wider seats (18 inches will be the economy seat standard, which is a first of its kind).

Additionally, Airspace will boast a quieter cabin, a lavatory with antibacterial surfaces, built-in broadband for easy Internet access and a fourth generation in-flight entertainment system available at every seat.

We’re hoping that these posh cabins will take over the friendly skies soon after their 2017 release.
