Upscale Japanese Steak and Sushi Palace to Open its First-Ever Texas Restaurant in Houston: It’s High-Rise Living for Foodies

BY // 12.05.15

Earlier this year, developer Marvy Finger (the brains behind downtown high-rise One Park Place) told PaperCity in an exclusive interview that his forthcoming mid-rise project, 500 Crawford, will feature more than just luxury residences. Finger plans to add further appeal to the development with the addition of two new restaurants: a high-end Italian concept and an upscale diner.

The move isn’t surprising, considering the booming high-rise and mid-rise market in Houston. More than 40 palaces in the sky are in the works, making standout perks a welcome addition for buyers.

Now it’s beginning to appear that restaurants inside residential buildings will become the norm. PM Reality Group has announced that Roka Akor, an upscale Japanese steak, seafood and sushi concept, will serve as the newest addition to its 40-story luxury high-rise, 2929 Weslayan. The restaurant currently has locations in Scottsdale, Arizona, Chicago, San Francisco and Skokie, Illinois, but this marks its first-ever Texas location. Roka Akor will occupy 6,591 square feet of 2929’s ground floor and exhibit a sleek, contemporary design similar to its existing restaurants.

Roka Akor will feature Omakase — a meal consisting of dishes selected by the chef.

“Roka Akor will be a great complement to the amenities at 2929 Weslayan as we create the perfect feeling of home and luxury living environment,” said Roger Gregory, PM Realty Group’s president of investments. “We will continue looking for ways to enhance our residents’ experience through retail tenants, property events and amenities.”

Guests can expect a seasonal menu with a rotating selection of prime-cut steaks, seafoods, vegetables, sushi and sashimi. An opening date has not been announced.
