ABOUT VIRGINIA CHANDLER DYKES: In 2002, Virginia Chandler Dykes’ passion for her lifelong work in occupational therapy, along with a shared vision with Texas Woman’s University to improve the health and quality of life for others, resulted in an annual event that has become one of Dallas’ premiere luncheon events: the Virginia Chandler Dykes Leadership Award Luncheon. The leadership award is presented annually to Dallas leaders dedicated to improving the quality of life and to furthering the importance of education in our community. To date, the luncheon has raised over $550,000 and awarded more than 100 scholarships. In addition to the Virginia Chandler Dykes Endowed Scholarship fund, Dykes also helped establish the Fanny B. Vanderkooi Endowed Lectureship for the School of Occupational Therapy at TWU in honor of her mentor. After completing her graduate work in occupational therapy at TWU, Dykes became Director of Occupational and Recreational Therapy at Baylor University Medical Center for 25 years. She was appointed by Gov. Rick Perry to serve on TWU’s Board of Regents, where she served until 2011.  For many years, she and her late husband, Roland, gave freely of their time and resources to promote occupational therapy opportunities for students, faculty and clinicians, inspiring countless others along the way. Dykes is also known for her leadership in many cultural and charitable organizations such as The Dallas Opera, the Dallas Arboretum’s Women’s Council and the Fort Worth Opera. In 2014 she was honored as one of six Women of the Year by Les Femmes du Monde. http://twu.edu/vcd/about.asp
