Celebrate the enduring musical legacy that sprang from the 30-year collaboration of Duke Ellington and composer, pianist and arranger Billy Strayhorn, who helped shape the sound and spirit of American music. Their melodies still thrill us today, as you’ll hear when the trailblazing, chart-topping piano artist Lara Downes joins the DSO to perform A Lovesome Thing: Billy Strayhorn Suite, a work co-commissioned by the DSO and premiered by her in 2022 with the Boston Pops. You’ll recognize the expressive songs that inspired this beautiful work: “A Flower Is a Lovesome Thing,” “Strange Feeling” and “Something to Live For.”
