Shirley Philipson Pollock Performance Space on the 4th Floor

In 1917 Marcel Duchamp changed how we view art when he entered the ‘Fountain’ into the Society of Independent Artist’s first annual exhibition. On July 29, the Dallas Public Library will commemorate this centennial with a birthday party for Mssr. Duchamp.

On July 8th, the Shirley Philipson Pollock Gallery at the Central Library hosted an opening of Dada inspired pieces by 10 Texas artists: Brad Tucker, Jason Cohen, Monique Janette, Andy Don Emmons, Matt Bagley, Thor Johnson, Chris Merlick, Sharon Neel-Bagley, Brett Ardoin and the collective known as ‘Brush Muscle’ are currently showing their work in the gallery on the 4th floor.

The event on the 29th will feature performances by the Dallas Neoclassical Ballet (http://www.dallasneo-classicalballet.com), Bad Trucker (http://www.bradtuckerart.com) and Professor Mutt with his Duchampaphones (https://www.duchampaphone.org).

The Dallas Neoclassical Ballet will be performing a Dada inspired piece.

Bad Trucker (Brad Tucker) will be conducting a performance with 7 musicians using weird and absurd instruments entitled “Bad Face”.

The Duchampaphones are musical instruments inspired by Duchamp’s Bicycle Wheel sculpture. Professor Mutt traveled 100 years into the future to invent them and now he is on a mission to spread the message of Dada through his performances. For the event on the 29th, the Professor is going to collaborate with some of the artists in the Gallery- Thor Johnson, Matt Bagley, Jason Cohen, Andy Don Emmons and Brett Ardoin have agreed to add their special musical skill sets to augment the Duchampaphone’s reality.

The Dallas Central Library will be open until 10pm on this special night and will provide cake, refreshments and beer & wine. Here is the Facebook event page:
