When

What

The Pangea Network, an international nonprofit dedicated to empowering motivated individuals in Kenya and the United States through education and mentorship, is hosting its annual “Out of Africa” celebration on Saturday, September 16 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Held at The Woodlands Country Club Legacy Ballroom in The Woodlands, one of the primary focuses of the gala will be to raise support for the drought-stricken country of Kenya, which was impacted this year and is suffering from a shortage of crops and sustainable resources. Pangea will do this by empowering entrepreneurial women who have trained in their programs on skills like first aid and business to help give back to their communities through enterprise. Creator and star of The Last Man on Earth, former Saturday Night Live actor and longtime Pangea ambassador Will Forte will also act as emcee throughout the night.

What: At this business formal event, guests will experience life-changing stories of the women, children and communities impacted by Pangea, an auction with unique items, as well as entertainment by magician Ben Jackson and music from African artists.

All proceeds from the 2017 Out of Africa event will further benefit Pangea’s mission of empowering and helping high school girls overcome challenges at home in Texas through the Young Women’s Leadership Challenge education and mentorship program, which inspires young female leaders to become global citizens and community mentors. The Kenyan Women’s Network program will also benefit, and focuses on basic business and life skills courses, revolving business grants, as well as first-aid training in poverty-stricken communities.

Specific needs include funding of 75 small businesses in Kenya, funding the expansion of Pangea’s Kenya Women’s Network with the implementation of three new women’s co-ops in 2018, and funding to allow the organization to expand its YWLC program in order to entrust more high school-aged girls in the U.S. to be confident trailblazers and active global citizens of the world.

Attendees: The Pangea Network’s Founder and Executive Director Nicole Minor, Pangea’s U.S. Programs Manager Ivana Situm; Kenya Country Director Dorothy Ombajo, Development Coordinator Beth Turner, Committee Members Ally Seder, Jennifer Majors Baca, Angela Aja, Kim Austin, Aisha DuBose, Cindy Hageman, Inkar Imanbaeva, Mishi Jain, Lisa Koetting, Elsa Petersen, Amy Smith, Ellen Turner, Victoria Velarde, and YWLC Representative Karina Pinzon. Creator and star of The Last Man on Earth and former Saturday Night Live actor Will Forte will act as emcee.

When: Saturday, September 16, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Where: The Woodlands Country Club, 100 Grand Fairway, The Woodlands, Texas 77381
