November 07, 2020 | 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Join Community Artists’ Collective and Honorary Chairs Melanie Lawson and John Guest for “Visual Art: Tangible Support for the Soul,” an educational and entertainment-filled telethon designed to inform the community about how the arts can offer the peace and joy necessary to calm anxieties and help provide mental, physical, and emotional healing. During the telethon, mental health experts will offer insights and coping mechanisms to help individuals and families manage today’s “new normal.” The evening will also feature a host of electric entertainment to showcase the joy of the arts, including dance, instrumental and vocal music, and spoken word and comedy.

UH Downtown Art Department chair Floyd Newsum will receive the Artist of the Year Award, while CAC board member Mary Holt Ashley receives the Beverly Harmon Service Award.

The telethon will benefit the educational programs of the Community Artists’ Collective, a local nonprofit that provides various, high-quality programming, including exhibitions, historical preservation, tourism, and education for children and adults within the greater Houston area. In addition, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to a local mental health institution.
