Local Artist Raises Money
To Buy Art Supplies for Abused Women
CONROE, TX – October 2017/ – Sara Moons of Whimsy Lake is exhibiting her music inspired art series, “Heart & Soul,” online and in Conroe this fall. The series portrays a bright, spontaneous, abstract expression of the artist’s favorite songs. This art exhibition has a deeper purpose, though: to spread awareness of the healing power of art. Funds from the artwork sold will be used to purchase art supplies for abused women being sheltered through the Montgomery County Women’s Center. Sara’s art series was created in a “deeply soulful, expressionistic manner,” and she would like to share this experience with women who are recovering from emotional, physical, or sexual abuse at the shelter. Sara states, “Art can serve as a refuge, and at times it can be life saving. Art can be a powerful and effective emotional outlet to those who are recovering from trauma. It serves as something to look forward to in life, and as a bridge to recovery.”
Sara created each piece of artwork from her Heart & Soul series while listening to her favorite songs. She selected songs that affect her deeply, and that trigger certain memories or emotions within her. She translates this emotional, musical stimulation into visual art. She allows the music to guide her while she makes spontaneous decisions on color, shape, line, and movement. Sara does not have an end result planned when creating these music inspired artworks. The final outcome is always an unexpected surprise. Her style in this series can be described as loose, energetic, bold, and bright. Sara considers herself an abstract expressionist, and says, “I want to focus on expressing who I am deep inside in an abstract, nonobjective way. Through this creative approach I have learned a lot about myself, and I love discovering my hidden capabilities. It is very exciting to see what emerges while I am creating an open-ended abstract painting.”
Sara has the unique opportunity to meet and interact with the women from the shelter on a weekly basis. Conroe Art League has provided funding to allow Sara to visit the shelter regularly to teach a variety of techniques and mediums. This personal interaction with the women is what inspired Sara to create art on their behalf. Not only does she want to teach them innovative techniques to express themselves through art, she wants to provide them with their own personal set of art materials so they may continue their creative journey after they leave the shelter and begin their new lives. Half of all sales generated through Whimsy Lake’s Heart & Soul series will go directly toward purchasing quality art supplies for these women.

To become involved in Whimsy Lake’s initiative, you may view and purchase original artwork from her directly during her online presale through whimsylake.com October 20th through November 5th.
