“Tryna turn my baby mama to my fiancé / she like music / she from Houston like Auntie Yoncé.”

Chancelor Bennett, better known as Chance the Rapper, was 9 years old when he met his future wife.

The morning of his wedding to Houston native Kirsten Corley, the daughter of Janice Corley-Blaney of Chicago and Kevin Corley of Maryland, the musician tweeted a story about seeing his bride, then also a child, perform a dance to Destiny’s Child’s “Charlie’s Angels” at his mother Lisa Thompson-Bennett’s RE/MAX office party in Chicago. Chance’s father, Ken Bennett, encouraged him to get up and perform as well, but Chance refused.

“It’s cause I knew I was gonna marry that girl. And I ain’t wanna jump the gun,” Chance tweeted in a sweet tribute to his bride-to-be the Wednesday before of his wedding.

The couple met again in 2011 at SXSW.

And marry her he did, eight years later, in a ceremony at The Resort at Pelican Hill in Newport Beach.

White cascading orchids, floating candles and three gospel stars set the tone at the reception for a wedding 16 years in the making.

Wedding Planner: Jeannie Savage.

The Bride Wore: Galia Lahav.

The Groom Wore: Custom Ralph Lauren.

The Bridesmaids Wore: Bella Bridesmaids.

Flower Girl: Kensli, the couple’s daughter.

The Rings: Tiffany & Co.

Bridesmaid Dance: Kirsten’s sister Krystal made the bridesmaids, including PaperCity’s Kara Smith (the bride’s cousin), stay up late the night before the wedding learning an intensely choreographed reception entrance dance.

Surprise from the Groom: Chance brought out three gospel guests — Tiff Joy, Hezekiah Walker, and Fred Hammond — to sing Kirsten’s favorite gospel songs, “Amazing,” “I Need You to Survive,” and “You are the Living Word.”

After their solos, they jammed together, and even Kirk Franklin hopped up and joined in.

“It was so beautiful, I was moved to tears,” Kirsten says.
