Famed Dallas Jewelry Store Roars into Houston for Sparkling, Tasty Splash

BY // 05.30.17

After three decades of fulfilling the jewelry desires of Dallas’ elite, Ylang 23 jetted into Houston recently for 48 hours of bejeweled fun. Think dinner at the oh-so-chic Yauatcha restaurant with a flock of fashionistas, followed by a pop-up shop amid the frothy wedding and designer fashions at Luvi Wheelock‘s Atrium.

Hosting the evening and escorting the collection of must-have baubles was Alysa Teichman, head of business development for the company founded by her parents, Joanne and Charles Teichman. This was Ylang 23’s fourth road show in the past 12 months after displaying their dazzling wares at chichi events in Aspen, New York and Nashville.

The enticing selection of delicate rings, necklaces, bracelets, and earrings on display included the work of leading designers such as Jennifer Meyer and Cathy Waterman and up and comping designers including Raphaele Canot, Yannis Sergakis, and Retrouvai.

Noting the versatility of the various pieces on display, Teichman said, “Women today live in a busy world. There’s just no time to change jewelry and with these pieces, you can live in it.”

As we perused the adorable collection of single earrings, Teichman, who happens to have multiple ear piercings herself, explained that multiple piercings are au courant and, in fact, her mother has multiples. Among Ylang 23’s single offerings we were particularly fond of those by Sydney Evan and Irene Neuwirth.

Ylang 23 enjoys widespread popularity as it was the first designer jewelry company to go online. The year was 2000. And that makes their collections readily accessible to fashionistas across the nation and beyond.

Now about that unusual name. The word ylang comes from the heady flowers of the tropical ylang ylang tree used in a fragrance that the family used to sell. The fragrance went its way but the charming nomenclature remained. The number 23 holds special significance for the Teichmans as they met on March 23, were engaged on April 23 and were married on November 23, all in the same year. Obviously, 23 is their lucky number.
