Houston’s New Shopping Hotspots: The Trendy Stores You Need to Know

BY // 04.17.16

Editor’s note: The shopping scene in Houston is forever changing — and growing more upscale. It’s hard to keep up with all the new stores and big events. But don’t worry, PaperCity has you covered.

Coming Soon
Austin-based women’s clothing boutique Kick Pleat opens its second location, this one at 2565 Kirby Dr. Started by Wendi Koletar, the store offers a collection of designers including Acne Studios, Denim Refinery, Etnia Barcelona, MM6 Maison Margiela, Rachel Comey and more. Kick Pleat is slated to open later this month.

A whimsical rabbit lands in River Oaks District with the opening of lifestyle brand Roberta Roller Rabbit on Saturday, May 14. The 1,900-square-foot boutique is adorned with hand-drawn stencil art from artists Lisa Wassong and Dominique Lange and carries the brand’s leisurewear, accessories and home-goods collections. Owner Roberta Freymann opened the original store on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in 2006, and since then has expanded the brand to 14 other locations.

Sports and style collide for the opening of Saint Bernard in River Oaks District. The Dallas-based sporting and lifestyle store opens the new location on Thursday, April 21. Expect the 14,000-square-foot emporium, designed by Dallas-based firm Coevál Space Design and Concepts, to feature a full-service ski shop, men’s lounge (serving draft beer and coffee), a sprawling range of outdoor gear and a plethora of sporting and lifestyle brands, including Cupcakes and Cashmere, Rodd and Gunn, Mara Hoffman, Peter Millar and Shoshanna.

After months of anticipation, SoulCyle confirms that its first Houston studio will open on Wednesday, April 27. Located at 2549 Kirby Dr., the studio will share a shopping center with Kick Pleat.

The Galleria is joining Houston’s high-rise boom with plans to build a 30-story residential tower and luxury hotel at the corner of Sage Road and West Alabama St. While The Galleria’s parent company, Simon, has yet to name a hotel partner, the building will house 225 hotel rooms on the first 15 floors; the remaining floors will be reserved for residential condos and penthouses ranging from 800 to 3,000 square feet in size. The building’s amenities will include a pool, health club and spa, media room, bar, private dining room (chef included) and restaurant.

Bella Rinova
A look at the new Bella Rinova Salon, opening in River Oaks District.

Uptown Park salon Bella Rinova is moving shop after 17 years, relocating to River Oaks District. Owned by Lynnette Davis, the salon expands to 7,200 square feet in size, nearly triple its current square footage, and will include a sprawling patio space. Make-up artist Edward Sanchez will operate a makeup and brow bar in the salon. The move makes Bella Rinova the only salon in the luxury shopping center.

Apparel, accessories and home décor join forces at the new Upper Kirby boutique Richly Clad, located at 2705 Bammel Lane. The store, which is owned by Kahia Perry and Cara Carbajal, features an eclectic mix of designers including LNA clothing, Skout Shop and local name Brass Thread. Added bonus: almost everything in the store is for sale — the couch, the art, it can all be yours.

The Four Seasons Hotel is debuting some major upgrades, the first of which includes a complete redesign of the in-house spa and fitness center. The renovated spa features three posh treatment rooms, a couples’ suite, a nail bar that stocks Deborah Lippmann, and new treatments. In addition, the fitness center has been upgraded to include top-of-the-line machines (think Matrix, Woodway and Life Fitness), new locker and steam rooms and a separate nook for fitness classes.

Custom suits are at your fingertips with the opening of Knot Standard at 2439 Bissonnet St. The brand, which also has showrooms in New York, Dubai, Washington D.C., Dallas and Austin, specializes in one-hour appointments that help you craft the perfect bespoke suit, shirt or blazer. The store celebrates its grand opening on Wednesday, April 20.
