The Most Luxurious Garage Sale Ever Pops Up in River Oaks: Up to 90 Percent Off Hermès, Chanel, Louis Vuitton and More

A chic consignment shop like no other has swept into Houston and where else would it land than on the edge of River Oaks? The Luxury Garage Sale (LGS), a seven-year-old enterprise founded in Chicago, has opened a pop-up at 2005 West Gray in the River Oaks Shopping Center with to-die-for offerings featuring a curated selection of designer and contemporary high-end apparel, luxury handbags, in-demand shoes and refined accessories.

An early visit to the company’s nationwide inaugural pop-up revealed row after row of must-have labels including Hermès, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Céline, Prada, Gucci and more. The goods are vintage, gently used and new items with the price tags still in place. In fact, more than half of the stock is brand new, straight from a retailer, and — joy to the world — everything is priced up to 90 percent below the original price.

Don’t expected any secondhand rose material here. Luxury Garage Sale lead Lauren DeVous tells PaperCity, “We take only the best of the best.” She adds that all pieces go through an extensive inspection process with high-end labels and condition paramount in the selection process.

The 80 shoppers who dropped in on Thursday’s debut seemed convinced. The very first to get out her credit cards had a satisfying spree, purchasing handbags from Louis Vuitton and Céline along with a pair of timeless Chanel slides.

“We really believe in Houston,” DeVous says. Several of the boutique’s favorite clients hail from the city.

“The Houston woman is warm, colorful and knows what she likes,” DeVous notes. Extending its reach, Luxury Garage Sale will be testing the waters in The Woodlands with a mini pop up scheduled for April 5, 6 and 7.

Houston women represent “a lot of what Luxury Garage Sale embodies too: confident, strong women. We really resonate with that. The Houston woman is not afraid to wear what she likes,” DeVous says.

Good news for Texas femmes, DeVous says that items are tailored to each specific city. “Everyone (in retail) went through a phase where every window looked exactly the same, every product mix was similar,” she notes. “For us, it’s not that way. We really try to dig deep in any community that we’re in.”

LGS also welcomes consignment items with participants receiving either 60 percent of the selling price or 70 percent in store credit. “People really love that, especially if they’ve never consigned before. It’s like a gateway drug,” DeVous says.

“It’s client-based service. People trust us,” she adds, explaining that many people who have done consignment have been burned. They have gotten pricing approval only to have their items sell for far different price points.

Luxury Garage Sale was officially launched in Chicago in 2011 when best friends Brielle Buchberg and Lindsay Segal started selling high-end clothing on eBay from Buchberg’s parents’ home. Today, there are two stores in Chicago as well as LGS temptations in Seattle, Minneapolis and Dallas.

Houston earned the honor of hosting the first pop-up of covetable couture, with upcoming locales like Miami, Boston and Los Angeles on tap for their turn.
