Four Trends from New York Fashion Week: It’s a Low-Rise World Again

BY // 09.14.17

As New York Fashion Week closes, next season’s trends are becoming apparent, and while it’s still too early to tell which styles the masses will gravitate towards, we’re highlighting four particularly strong recurring Spring 2018 looks.

Unconventional Blazers

From the top: Victoria Beckham, Alexander Wang, and Tibi

Blazers are irrefutably having a moment right now. As feminism becomes more and more conventional, the sartorial symbols of female empowerment are getting re-examined and served back to us on the runways. The power suit, once reserved for the women working their way up the corporate ladder, has been dismembered and now the blazer is a must-have piece in any closet.

Florals for Spring

Spring is for florals as told by Ulla Johnson when models were sent strutting down the botanical runway in bold floral prints for a dramatic show. More delicate, feminine florets are on the upswing, giving this spring something of a saccharine note.

Is Orange the New Pink?

From the top: Tom Ford, Sies Marjan, and Calvin Klein

The arresting neon hue was first spotted in Tom Ford’s collection, which unveiled a sporty tracksuit that stood out from the rest of his more sophisticated neutral collections. Then came a metallic jacket from Sies Marjan and a zippered high-necked poncho from Calvin Klein.

Low-risers

From the top: Baja East, Fenty Puma by Rihanna, and Chromat

Of all of the late 1990s and early 2000s styles that could have possibly resurfaced — it had to be low-risers. Prepare to channel your inner Christina Aguilera, because low-rise pants are back — at least for now. Hip bones will be showing.
