Two shopping extravaganzas scorched credit cards across the city this spring as Houston Ballet inaugurated a spring Nutcracker Market and the gals who organize DASH (Design-Art-Style-Home) held a launch party that drew more than 400 shoppers.

Each market had a bit of something for everyone not the least of which was a party atmosphere.

No question, Houston Ballet’s concept of a Nutcracker Market Spring Spectacular was a success. More than 18,150 shoppers descended on NRG Center and spent $3.2 million, 11 percent of which plus ticket sales benefit the Houston Ballet Foundation.

Straw totes, gourmet foods for summer menus, floral decor and summer frocks were among the offerings presented by 160 merchants, 45 of which were new to the market.

While the shoppers donned Easter bunny ears and other spring-inspired costuming, Kirksey Gregg Productions infused the vast hall with decorative elements of the season. The Round Top Collection dressed things up with a massive flower wall, the perfect backdrop for shopper selfies. Houston Ballet Nutcracker Market CEO Patsy Chapman and event guru Kirksey Gregg cut the ribbon on the market sure to be a repeat in 2020.

The popular holiday Nutcracker Market returns to NRG Center November 14 to 17.

DASH, partnering with the nonprofit Dwell With Dignity, took over Silver Street Studios for its Spring Market and the first DASH Preview Party. Guests were welcomed with a colorful wall of balloons by Margaret Dodd of Festivities TX; snacked on bites from Island Grill, Relish Restaurant & Bar, and the Blonde Pantry; and swayed to the sounds of Adam Estes, all while perusing the goods from more than 80 merchants and dealers in home decor, gifts, furniture, fashion and design including Melange Eye Candy, Two Tequila Sisters and Monaco Interiors.

DASH co-founders Lisa Erwin, Michelle Maresh, Angela Poujol and Vanessa Sendukas kept an eye on market happenings that spread over three days, following the preview party. Look for another big night when this group launches the DASH Fall Market, October 24 to 27.
