Pyjamas Are Now a High-End Daytime Thing With the World’s Top Designers All In

BY // 02.29.16

The off-duty look made huge strides in 2015. Sneakers, sweatshirts, athletic leggings — you name it, people were wearing it. But this season, designers are taking comfortability a step further, sending pyjamas down the runway. That’s right … ready-to-wear pyjamas.

While sleepwear as daywear isn’t exactly new, the Spring 2016 runway provided a contemporary take on the refreshed trend.

Designers like Dolce & Gabbana opted for matching pyjama sets, while Alexander Wang showed robe-like outerwear and Céline presented slip dresses rimmed in lace. And, furthermore, the trend is extending far beyond the runway. Style veterans like blogger Aimee Song and celebrity stylist June Ambrose are eschewing matching suits for coordinating silk pyjamas.

But snooze-style doesn’t end with apparel. Dolce & Gabbana and Gucci have also given the classic slipper a complete overhaul with crystal-encrusted and fur-lined renditions; designer Olympia Le-tan is embossing handbags with a slumber-filled Alice in Wonderland; and Feverish is using sleeping bats as necklace pendants.

Style Tip: Pair your pyjama set with a strappy heel and a La Perla eye mask repurposed as a headband.
