Carrie Bradshaw's Fashionista Dream is Coming to Life

BY // 04.14.19

Fashionistas with a shoe obsession rivaling that of Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw will have the opportunity on Tuesday to literally walk in the star’s shoes. Sarah Jessica Parker wings into Houston for one mammoth shopping day in which her SJP brand of fancy footwear will go on sale for the benefit M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.

Thousands of shoes and accessories will be, as Parker tells PaperCity, priced “ridiculously low.”

Where: Bayou City Event Center

When: Tuesday, April 16, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. or until the merchandise is depleted.

Admission: Free.

This is a first for Parker, who since founding her shoe brand with Manolo Blahnik USA president George Malkemous III in 2014, has had a number of sample sales in the past but not one linked to a specific charity.

“Because of the attention and care that Tony (Tony Yurgaitis, Manolo Blahnik vice president and Malkemous’ partner) received at MD Anderson, they spent so much time in Houston and they really liked the city and the people,” Parker says. “They wanted to give something back so George had this idea and I think it’s divine.”

Yurgaitis was successfully treated for prostate cancer at M.D. Anderson, under the care of Dr. Christopher Logothetis. The rock star of prostate cancer treatment holds the positions of professor, Genitourinary Medical Oncology; director, Genitourinary Cancer Center; co-leader, Prostate Cancer Moon Shot; and administrative director, The David H. Koch Center for Applied Research of Genitourinary Cancers.

Logothetis, along with Parker, Malkemous and Yurgaitis will join shoppers at the event that will benefit prostate cancer research at M.D. Anderson. SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker is also donating a number of shoes for teenage patients participating the cancer hospital’s annual Prom Party Palooza.

Parker’s SJP collection includes handcrafted shoes made in Italy; handbags, introduced in 2014 and reimagined as completely American-made in 2017; and LBD by SJP, the Little Black Dress collection launched in 2016.

Footnote

Malkemous and Yurgaitis announced only last week that they have decided not to renew their licensing deal with the legendary Italian shoe designer, Manolo Blhanik. The surprising break-up of the storied designer/executive partnership that began in 1982 was the result of what Malkemous described in a press release as “unacceptable terms” offered by Manolo CEO Kristina Blhanik, daughter of the designer.
