Design World It Girl is Set to Open Her Own Dallas Store: Inside the Charming World of Amy Berry

BY // 12.18.18

Amy Berry is not just a darling of the Dallas design world. In the five years since opening her interior design firm, she’s become an industry It Girl, capturing the attention of close to 60,000 Instagram followers and brands across the country — including, most recently, Serena & Lily, which tapped Berry to be its Dallas ambassador prior to opening its McKinney Avenue storefront last month.

Even with two children under the age of three, the Highland Park native makes it all look incredibly easy. Her casual nature, combined with her fresh spin on traditional design and innate way of making every client feel like a close friend, is precisely her appeal.

The homes she designs are perfectly composed, yet meant for laughing and living in. No wonder so many clients tap her for their nurseries — she is living proof that you can do it all.

Dallas First

This past year, Berry completed projects in the Hamptons, Cape Cod, Georgia, and San Francisco, and has just returned from a nursery install in L.A. for dear friend Gray Malin.

Even with her busy travel schedule, the majority of her work is in Dallas. “It’s really a great place to be doing what I do,” says Berry. “There’s just enough of a Southern sensibility that people really do care about their homes — and people entertain.”

In Dallas, Berry has been quietly working on opening a store of her own. Amy Berry Design is scheduled to open February 2019 in the Oak Lawn space previously occupied by The Collective Residential, the real estate firm co-founded by her mother-in-law, Christy Berry, before it was acquired by real estate mega-firm Compass.

“It’s something I’ve always wanted to do,” she says of the shop, which will carry furniture, accessories, and have a section dedicated to all things nursery-related. “Really, the idea is that it’s all of my go-tos, the good basics that I feel shouldn’t be hard to find — but are.”

And Berry’s go-tos? Blue-and-white china, hand-printed Bennison linens, and anything combining wicker and animals. Her affinity for timeless style and conviction in her own sensibilities leads her to seek out the best — and stick with it.

Why mess with a classic. (Case in point: her favorite restaurants: Café Pacific, Javier’s, and Mi Cocina.)

“People ask me all the time if I’m constantly changing things, but I really don’t. I’m not a serial decorator, Berry says, adding that she is finally doing some redecorating in her own home after almost six years. “We have two kids and a two dogs and it was just time to do some stuff.

“It’s kind of a circus at my house. But it’s a good circus.”
