The Dallas Design Awards’ Entry Period Races Toward Closing — All-Star Judges On Tap

The Dallas PaperCity Design Awards with Dunhill Partners and Dallas Design District entry period is in full swing and will come to a close Wednesday, October 12. Now in its second year, the Dallas PaperCity Design Awards recognize outstanding residential interior design, interior architecture; retail, restaurant, gallery design; landscape design, historical preservation, furniture and product design, along with other categories. The impressive panel of design professionals adds major prestige to the competition: Architect Bobby McAlpine, McAlpine Architects, with offices throughout the South and NYC; Jeffrey Alan Marks, based in LA and Santa Monica; and Jay Jeffers, based in San Francisco.

The awards are open to Dallas and Fort Worth-area interior designers and architects, regardless of affiliation. The entry period opened Sunday, May 1, 2016, and concludes on Wednesday, October 12, 2016.

On Thursday, November 3, the winning entries will be announced and celebrated at a by-invitation awards ceremony at Dallas Design District. Winning entries will also be featured in the January 2017 PaperCity Home + Art issue.

A closer look at this year’s judges:

California designer Jeffrey Alan Marks may be known for his star role on Bravo’s Million Dollar Decorators, but his inclusion in House Beautiful’s list of the most influential decorators in American history and Elle Decor’s A-List demonstrate his expertise. His numerous Hollywood clients and prominent projects are published regularly by major shelter magazines.

Marks’ numerous collaborations include collections with Kravet, Palecek and A. Rudin, with a bedding collection debuting this year. His book, The Meaning of Home (Rizzoli), chronicles 15 of his firms’ projects, from a Malibu beach house to a London townhouse.

Bobby McAlpine, the quintessential Southern architect and a member of the Architectural Digest AD 100 list, holds both architecture and interior design degrees and has crafted a timeless and poetic style of architecture. He founded his architecture and interior design firm, McAlpine, 33 years ago, and has offices in Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, and New York.

McAlpine is the author of the best-selling book The Home Within Us (Rizzoli), and co-author with designer Susan Ferrier of The Art of the House (Rizzoli). McAlpine’s work has been published in The New York Times, Elle Decor, Architectural Digest, House & Garden and a host of other publications. His furniture collections are through Lee Industries, McRae Designs, and Elegant Earth.

San Francisco designer Jay Jeffers, a member of Elle Decor’s A-List, has a home accessories collection for Arteriors, with an expanded collection of furniture, accessories, and lighting debuting this year. His work has been published in House Beautiful, Elle Decor, Departures, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times and other publications.

His design store, Jay Jeffers – The Store, is located in Lower Nob Hill and stocks his bespoke furniture paired with objects and accessories by local and international artists. Jeffers is the author of the book Collected Cool (Rizzoli).
