The variety of flavors and rubs are as wide and vast as the state itself, and Houston seems to have each represented. Truth BBQ
The truth is, we couldn’t wait much longer for Truth BBQ to make its way into Houston. This humble Brenham joint located just off Highway 290 finally arrived to Houston this past January, and we are grateful. Between its die-hard fans and the Texas Monthly accolades, you could say this joint is fluent in barbecue.
Feges BBQ
If you frequent the plaza of Greenway, you are undoubtedly familiar with the mouth-watering scent of this hidden gem tucked in the Hub at 3 Greenway Plaza. Feges offers a wide range of offerings to satisfy the lunchtime munchies of Greenway workers – even some lighter (dare we say, healthy?) options.
The Pit Room
The name of this barbecue joint is enough to entice – it just sounds like the perfect place to go for knock-out meats. Expect your ‘cue at The Pit Room to be smoked the Central Texas-style way, with all the brisket, ribs, pulled pork, and sausage your heart could desire (or bear). Just try to save room for their savory sides.
Blood Bros. BBQ
Don’t let the small and understated location deter you from this award-winning barbecue hotspot. The three Alief natives and friends at Blood Bros. BBQ have switched it up with their meats and rubs, offering flavors that highlight the fragrant Asian and Cajun influences that are familiar to Houstonians.
Pinkerton's Barbecue
Everything at Pinkerton’s Barbecue is made, smoked, and blended just as you would at home. From the killer beef, pork, and chicken to the indulgent sweets and sides made from family recipes, dining at Pinkerton’s is reminiscent of those outside patio dinners at home in summertime. And Pinkerton himself is quickly gaining national praise.
Gatlin's BBQ
Just one look at the brisket at Gatlin’s BBQ, and you can be sure you’re in a safe space. This family-first restaurant with its hometown, Texas vibe has been catering to barbecue lovers for nine years now. And judging by the constant crowds and frequent Gatlin’s diners, there appear to be no signs of it slowing.
Triple J's Smokehouse
Triple J’s Smokehouse, nestled in Northeast Houston, requires you to stretch your brain a little, and that’s not a bad thing. They’ve been in operation since 1994, serving everything you can imagine (stuffed baked potatoes, anyone?). They’re so good, they were a participant and barbecue cooker at the 2004 Super Bowl.
Corkscrew BBQ
Not only are we grateful that Corkscrew BBQ in Old Town Spring serves up insanely delicious slices of meat, but we also appreciate that they spell out everything you need to know when ordering their Southern specialties. Get there early, though, because when they sell out, that’s it. And they do frequently.
Pappa Charlie's Barbeque
Pappa Charlie’s is no stranger to the barbecue life. They’ve taken part in numerous competitions throughout the country: across the south, in the midwest and southwest, and of course here in the Lone Star State. After years of selling their goods out of their 20-foot trailer, they finally opened a brick-and-mortar in the heart of Downtown.
Killen's Barbecue
Killen’s Barbecue is killin’…it (sorry, we had to). Since opening up in 2013, this Pearland spot has stolen the spotlight, and raised the bar for Texas Barbecue. It’s no surprise that Killen’s has been recognized by many across the city and state for its stellar fare. We wish you luck as you try to decide what to order.
