Major Houston Developer’s Lakeside Mansion Hits the Market: A $5.9 Million Stunner in One of H-Town’s Most Secret Neighborhoods

A big-time house in the heart of Memorial has just hit the market. The lakeside mansion is owned by major developer Bradley Freels, the force behind CityCentre, Kirby Grove and the upcoming East Rivers.

If a home’s gotten the stamp of approval from a prolific developer, you know it’s a serious stunner.

The custom Sandalwood house at 30 Robinlake Lane  is listed for $5.9 million. It includes 370 feet of lake frontage. The property is actually a compilation of two separate lots on the fully bullkheaded lakes with boardwalks in the neighborhood.

“There are three lakes and very few of them front on the lake. Two lots on a freshwater lake in Houston — that’s just pretty special,” listing agent Patti Garrison of Martha Turner Sotheby’s tells PaperCity.

Imagine a little piece of the Texas Hill Country tucked into Memorial with ample opportunities for swimming, boating, fishing and canoeing along breathtaking lakefront vistas. This treasure is hidden no more.

“It’s a tasteful, sophisticated Texas home,” Garrison says. You won’t find anything quite like it.

“It’s like living in a little slice of Americana you can’t find anywhere else, 15 minutes from downtown Houston. It’s unbelievable.”

Houston’s Old Time Neighborhood

The sprawling mansion is cozied up on just about three-quarters of an acre in the prestigious Sandalwood neighborhood. Sandalwood was developed back in the 1950s by father and son-in-law duo Martin Nadelman and Howard Singer. The three magnificent lakes in Sandalwood were named for Singer’s daughters: Robin, Lorrie and Patti Lynn.

The trio of lakes, a wooded park, a party pavilion, large playground and lighted trails are exclusively for residents of Sandalwood. Garrison lives in the neighborhood.

“We are so extremely unique, built around three freshwater lakes that were there from the time the developers built the neighborhood,” the real estate agent notes. “We’re frozen in time. It’s like a throwback to days gone by.”

The high ceilings of the dining room make it feel grand and elegant.

Architect Joe Milton built the elegant house. You’ll find relics like a 20th century barn door from Thrall, pine floors straight from the state capitol and vintage fixtures from Luling. Lone Star State stars are a recurring motif, from the stone entryway to the terrace to the kitchen backsplash.

Some of the wood is personal, cut down from trees near Claudia Freels’ parent’s orchard.

Wide, open porches on the front and back of the 7,000-square-foot residence feature Austin limestone accents. Inside, the impressive vaulted ceilings boast open trusses and reclaimed wood beams.

The open-living floor plan includes an expansive gathering kitchen and breakfast room with a view of the lake. The plush yet undeniably Texan master suite is on the first floor. It’s completely private with a vestibule entrance and glass doors that open to the gleaming pool and loggia.

A guest bedroom and bathroom are on the first floor, along with the spacious home gym. The gym allows you to be one with nature thanks to its many windows looking out into the wooded neighborhood.

The staircase leading to the second floor is a charming mix of wood and metal. It leads to the common area game room and open den, along with the secluded study.

Outdoors, it’s more Texas charm with a stone fire pit, fully equipped summer kitchen and dining area and flagstone patios.

It’s Texas distilled into one lakefront home.
