Houston’s Most Stunning Home Swimming Pools — Any Old Water Feature Won’t Do When it Comes to the Mansion Life

Making a Splash in the City's Best Neighborhoods

Despite the oncoming season of high temps and sweltering humidity, Texans persevere, finding ways to incorporate outdoor living with indoor pleasures. Consider, for example, the trend of air-conditioning vents located to spew chilled air onto summer kitchens and covered patios. And then there is the chilling ambience of the swimming pool.

The pool seems to be the homeowner’s preferred answer to dealing with the heat and some examples are more exciting than others as builders today are incorporating the pool into an entire outdoor living plan. Herewith, we take a look at eight amazing Houston home swimming pools sure to whet your appetite for a making a splash in your neighborhood.

Frankel Building Group, working on a new build in the Museum District, created a stunning outdoor/indoor experience with glass walls that fold away invisibly.

“The biggest shift we have seen in outdoor living is that pools are now being custom built so that the style and design is seamless with the rest of the house,” says Scott Frankel. “When we build and design pools now we have to take the mindset they we are building an extension of the home.”

That would certainly be the case with the vast residence at 3 W. Rivercrest Drive, where Frankel helmed the design and construction of the house while Custom Design Pools did the pool. Reminiscent of brutalist architecture design, the house demands a pool that speaks to the heavy spacial volume and that was created by several pillars lifting segments of the roof above the pool area.

For many current homebuyers, less is more even when it comes to that major water feature, the swimming pool. Case in point is the house at 112 Glenwood, within a short stroll of Memorial Park, completed earlier this year. The sleek lines of the Allan Edwards-constructed home are echoed in the sophisticated swimming pool which doubles as a water feature with side fountain outlets. Rather than in the back of the lot, this pool welcomes guests just inside the front gate and provides panoramas from the living area window wall.

This pool and landscaping, by Outdoor Oasis, is the ultimate in tasteful simplicity. Listed with Paul Bice of Bice & Associates, the asking price is $4.25 million.

Sometimes, one pool is not enough. And that’s the story at 27 E. Rivercrest Drive, which boasts a glam indoor pool and an outdoor lap pool. With nine to 10 bedrooms, you just need that extra splash zone. The grand French Colonial style, 14,000 square foot house spreads across more than three and a half acres and is on the market with John Daugherty Realtors, Patricia Reed listing agent, for $4.999 million.

In the “we can dream, can’t we” category, there is the beyond magnificent pool on the storied estate at 100 Carnarvon. With its Italianate architecture and landscaping (think towering Italian cypress and banks of olive trees), this could be a scene from a lavish Franco Zeffirelli production. While this property, listed with Kellie Geitner at Martha Turner Sotheby’s International Realty for a cool $29.9 million might be out of reach, we can draw inspiration from the romantic design and stately landscaping.
