Deserted Dallas Mall Demolition to Finally Resume, Clearing Way for a New Midtown Village

It’s Abandoned Mall Week in Dallas. First, Plano approves its plan to redevelop Collin Creek Mall and now, the demolition of Valley View Mall is finally restarting after a year-long stall.

Valley View, which opened in 1973, is being redeveloped by Beck Ventures. When construction for the Dallas Midtown project fell far behind schedule, the city sued the developer. It got dubbed the mall “frozen in time” and cited as a blight on the neighborhood as weeds grew all around it and nothing was done.

The lawsuits are now settled and work can begin again on the new Dallas Midtown high-rise complex.

Beck Ventures is partnering with Life Time to create a village based on healthy living at the 70-acre area. It will be a place to live, work and play. Which seems to be the motto for all of the newest developments in Dallas.

This new Dallas Midtown development will include a 20-acre park on the south side, high-rise apartments, office and retail.

The Dallas Midtown plan includes hike and bike trails connecting to White Rock Lake, a modern trolley system connecting to The Galleria, interactive water features, luxury hotels, a 10-screen movie theater, an athletic and wellness facility, boutique shopping, restaurants and entertainment venues.

“This development will create a city within a city. With restaurants, shopping, housing and office space, Dallas Midtown will completely redefine this part of Dallas, ” said Linda Koop, former Dallas City Council member and State Representative.

Valley View Mall has been looking like an abandoned mall you fight zombies in in the video game, Dead Rising, for awhile now. I went to see Good Dinosaur at the AMC Valley View 16 in 2015 and was very confused as to how that place was still running. This will be a good change.
