Unique Homes Make This Dallas Neighborhood Truly Stand Out

From Forest Retreats to Hipster Paradises to Friendly Horses, the White Rock Home Tour Offers It All

BY // 04.16.19

The annual White Rock Home Tour is not only a great opportunity to see some of Dallas’ most beautiful homes, it also benefits a worthy cause — DISD’s Hexter Elementary. And what a great job they did: Last year’s tour raised $61,400 (after expenses) for the school’s students and teachers.

The dates for this year’s tour are Saturday and Sunday April 27 and 28 from noon to 5 pm. It’s happening rain or shine.

Discount tickets on sale now for $15 each at whiterockhometour.org. Tickets are also on sale at White Rock Coffee and Green Spot Market. During tour weekend, tickets run $20 each and will be on sale at each tour home starting at 12 pm; and also at Hexter Elementary, 9720 Waterview Road, from 11 am to 4 pm.

White Rock Home Tour Highlights

— Seven houses are on the tour, including a number of mid-century modern and new constructions.

— For the first time in its 14-year history, the tour is featuring a “work in progress” home in Old Lake Highlands by modernist architect Cliff Welch. Tour goers get the unique opportunity to see this large home before construction is complete. The architect and builders will be on-site during the tour to talk about the home.

— Also new this year, are two distinctive New Leaf Custom Homes on Forest Trail (behind Flagpole Hill). Tour patrons can enjoy a shuttle ride from a parking lot at 9601 White Rock Trail to Forest Trail and walk between the two homes. A stone’s throw from Northwest Highway, these homes are in a forest setting, that just a few years ago used to be a construction waste dump. And there’s a pair of friendly horses you can meet.

— A unique new modern home by A. GRUPPO Architects that maximizes space on a challenging lot.

Here are some really rock’n details from the home tour chair, Alyson Black:

“The remodeling crowd will love the Lake Highlands Place home, with its budget-friendly price tag, and its recent master bathroom renovation. MCM purist hipsters will L-O-V-E the Capri home (and its owners) with its minimalist design that lets the home speak for itself.

“Expect your jaw to drop as you enter the homes on beautiful Forest Trail – hard to believe just a few years ago this beautiful setting was a construction waste dump! These two homes are unique. That’s why we chose them both for the tour this year…and New Leaf Custom Homes has provided a shuttle for our guests since there’s no parking on the street.

“The Loving Ave. home in Lakewood is the picture of modern elegance & rock-n-roll, peppered with pieces from the homeowner’s extensive world travels as SVP of AT&T. Architects and fans of architects will be inspired how A. GRUPPO’s Thad Reeves designed the Trammel home in a challenging location – you’ve gotta see this in person.

“Finally, our long-time friend of the tour architect Cliff Welch, and his builder Clay Robinson, have welcomed WRHT guests inside their work-in-progress on East Lake Highlands to check out this amazing new modern built around a pool in the front. You’ll get the chance to meet Cliff and Clay during the tour and see a display of renderings of the finished home.

“See you April 27 and 28th, rain or shine!”
