New Houston Seafood Bar Rises in a Shuttered Burger Spot: Lobsters Rolls and Cocktails Rule on South Bank

BY // 07.20.17

What do you get when you cross a former burger eatery with a seafood-centric menu and ocean-inspired surrounds? A new Houston restaurant coined South Bank Seafood Bar.

The brainchild of Eighty Six’d Hospitality Group, South Bank is breathing new life into the shuttered Refinery Burger and Whiskey space at 702 West Dallas Street — a concept that also lived under the restaurant group’s umbrella.

“We wanted to stay true to the city, and we are positioned on the south bank of Buffalo Bayou, thus giving us the name South Bank Seafood Bar,” co-owner Jason Lowery says.

The locale which was once known for its hefty burgers and diverse whiskey and beer selections is now sporting a contemporary, seaside menu curated by executive chef Harold Wong. A collection of thirst-quenching cocktails complement South Bank’s seafood dishes.

“We offer an awesome menu consisting of modern seafood plates, a delicious and refreshing cocktail list, accompanied by a stylish yet unpretentious space and vibe,” Lowery says. “Not to mention, we have an amazing patio with views of the Houston cityscape.”

Get ready to indulge in everything from lobster rolls and fish tacos to lobster quesadillas and boiled crawfish. For the non-seafood eater, South Bank’s spiced chicken wings aim to please.

But no trip to South Bank is complete without a swig from the bar’s vibrant cocktail list, which sports shaken, stirred, and on-tap concoctions geared to help you cool down in Houston’s scorching summer climate.

We recommend the refreshing Sandia Fresca, an on-tap cocktail made with mescal, tequila, watermelon juice, and pink Himalayan sea salt.

Enjoy your drink in South Banks indoor-outdoor interiors, or head to the restaurant’s expansive outdoor patio, which not only features an additional bar fashioned out of shipping containers, but also touts one of the best views of Houston’s downtown skyline.
