Beloved Burger Spot Opens a New Restaurant in The Heights: And Now You Can Drink in the Teacher’s Lounge

From an eye-catching yellow school bus to a burger-obsessed brick-and-mortar, Bernie’s Burger Bus has quickly become one of Houston’s most popular go-tos for whimsical gourmet burgers, fries, and shakes.

But the mounting success hasn’t slowed Bernie’s Burger Bus owner Justin Turner down. With two locations already in tow, Turner recently added to his burgeoning burger fleet, unveiling his third Bernie’s installment in The Heights — a neighborhood currently experiencing rapid restaurant growth.

“We couldn’t be prouder to return to The Heights, which was one of the first places we parked our iconic, original yellow school bus back in 2010,” Turner says. “We owe a lot to the people of The Heights for supporting us in our early days, and we’re ready to get cooking inside of that same bus, which will now serve as our kitchen, at our [Heights location.]”

Stationed at 2200 Yale Street, the new 3,300 square-foot space will dish out Bernie’s signature, house-made chuck and brisket burgers, hand-cut fries, locally-sourced salads, scratch-made sauces and toppings, and milk shakes.

Bernie’s staples like the Principal, a classic burger enhanced with slow-roasted garlic tomatoes; the Cheerleader, the star of which is pepper jack cheese, crispy jalapeños, and jalapeño ranch; and the Homeroom, a cheddar cheeseburger topped with crispy bacon, tipsy onions, chipotle aoli, and a fried egg will all appear on the menu.

Bernie’s recently released chicken sandwich lineup will also join the menu alongside a revival of the popular off-the-menu item The Study Hall, a pork belly-topped burger — Turner’s ode to the McRib.

But the classics aren’t the only thing you’ll enjoy at The new Heights outpost. Unlike the Bellaire and Katy locations, Bernie’s Heights is equipped with a full bar coined the Teacher’s Lounge, which will serve up beer, wine, shaken and frozen cocktails, and boozy milkshakes.
