Dallas’ Ultimate Christmas Bar Pops Up in Deep Ellum: This is Where You Go When You’ve Been Naughty

BY // 12.04.18

Deep Ellum is always a Saturday night draw, but sometimes it takes a Miracle to get you there. I went to the eclectic, transforming Dallas neighborhood to check out the new Miracle Christmas Pop-Up Bar at HIDE bar at 2816 Elm Street. The concept of the ultimate Christmas bar was launched in 2014 by Greg Boehm and now the seasonal pop-ups have grown to more than 90 locations around the world.

HIDE is Miracle’s only Christmas cocktail pop-up site in Dallas, but there is also a Miracle Christmas Pop-Up Bar in Fort Worth at Proper (409 West Magnolia Avenue). The one in Deep Ellum leaves quite an impression.

Never having experienced Deep Ellum after dark, I was in for a treat. Or a trick? I’m not sure what was going on this night or if it’s just the usual Deep Ellum nightlife vibe, but people dressed up in costumes ranging from heavy goth attire to a woman wearing a full-on Maleficent outfit roaming Elm Street.

As soon as my friends and I approached the festivities, HIDE bar immediately caught my eye with its stellar lights display out front. The galaxy-esque blue, purple and green colors had a sort of gravitational pull on me. I love my cool colors. Also, compared to the darker grunge vibe of Deep Ellum, this dazzling spot would be difficult to miss.

A complete contrast from the debauchery happening out on the street, the bar was packed with people wearing Christmas sweaters, onesies and Santa hats. Inside, more lights hung from the ceiling, as well as a decent sized plastic Christmas tree. The potential of that upside down tree falling from the rafters was a tad stressful for me, but other than that, it was magical.

It took me back to being a kid. Good ole’ wholesome Christmas-time fun, but with naughty and nice shots. Other big kid drinks include the Snowball Old Fashioned with gingerbread bourbon and wormwood bitters, the original Die Hard movie inspired Yippee Ki Yay Mother F****r! with sweet potato rum and marshmallow orgeat, and the Christmapolitan with vodka, elderflower and spiced cranberry sauce.
