Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and it’s high time you found a suitable celebration for the woman you owe it all to. We’re not saying you should forego a heartfelt card and maybe some sentimental jewelry, but the meal truly makes the day.

2. Backstreet Cafe

This charming home-turned-restaurant is all about classic, home-style meals on the spacious patio. Chef Hugo Ortega has whipped up a three-course, pre-fixe menu for the occasion. The meal is $49 per person and $15 for kids 10 and under, with dishes like grilled peach salad and bacon-wrapped scallops with polenta. You can also expect live jazz, courtesy of Bob Chadwick.

3. Xochi

Xochi is talkin’ Oaxacan with beloved Mexican dishes ranging from eggs to seafood to grilled meats. You’d better believe housemade hot chocolate and Mexican hot chocolate will make an appearance. Wash it all down with agua frescas. The cost if $45 for adults and $15 for kids, who can get their faces painted.

4. Roka Akor

2929 Wesleyan Street 

This acclaimed sushi spot has got quite the treat in store for mom: think four courses with celebrated dishes like Snake River Farms wagyu filets and Toro tartare. Through the courses, you’ll discover crab croquettes, a five-fish sashimi selection and fried Brussels sprouts.

5. La Table

1800 Post Oak Boulevard

Enjoy a laidback, carefree and casual “Punch Brunch” at Marché — a new weekly installment. It’s quickly becoming popular for its punch bowl cocktails, brunch specials and live music in an al fresco setting.

Meanwhile, you can take things to the next level — literally — with Château upstairs. Family-style brunch will feature a pastry basket, scrambled eggs, orange brioche French toast, roasted heirloom potato hash and more. For $85 for adults and $35 for kids, you can also enjoy a raw bar, salad display and carving station.

Award-winning chef and cookbook author Chris Shepherd’s steakhouse is celebrating Mother’s Day, and it’s no surprise — the “Georgia” in the name refers to his mother, after all. He’s offering his regular menu and amping things up with a trout Benedict.

This intimate Italian retreat is offering up a specialty brunch. Feel free to partake in choices like branzino in white beurre blacnc, veal marsala and lobster bisque for $49.95 per person.

Chef Hugo Ortega has five words for you: Feliz dia de las Madres! Hugo’s famed buffet bounty will include its celebrated Mexican eats. The award-winning brunch is $45 per adult and $15 per child. Delight in a margarita shaken tableside.

17. Kenny & Ziggy’s New York Delicatessen

Every day is a good day for a mammoth Reuben and seriously good matzo ball soup, but Kenny & Ziggy’s wants to make things special for your mama. Expect cheese blintzes and complimentary offerings of their signature black-and-white cookies — for mothers, that is.

This picturesque Med Center restaurant features the modern Houstonian menu, brought to new heights on Mother’s Day. With waterfall views, Third Coast will offer a delectable brunch buffet. Think oyster bar, carving station and omelets galore. 

19. The Grove

1611 Lamar Street

The Kinder HSPVA school will set the tone for this brunch with live music. You can partake in savory brunch favorites, meat-carving stations and even a build-your-own breakfast taco bar. Mimosas, sangrias and mojitos are $15 — but come with amazingly low 15-cent refills. Brunch is $35 per person and $15 for children aged 2 to 12.

20. Liberty Kitchen

1050 Studewood; 4224 San Felipe

The world is always your oyster at Liberty Kitchen, but kick things up a notch with its celebratory brunch, boasting a complimentary glass of sangria or mimosa. There will be specialty items, of course, like warm crawfish and kale dip, plus lobster, sweet corn and cream chowder.

The bistro is making a motherly exception and opening up on a Sunday. Bistro Provence is eager to share a three-course, pre-fixe menu for $49 per adults and a smaller meal for children, priced at $20. Reservations are required for this seasonal brunch.

This Mediterranean hotspot is celebrating with a pre-fixe brunch and dinner, with dishes like avocado and quail egg toast, poached egg byaldi and more. Specialty cocktails will add extra flair, like The White Rose with Bailey’s Almande and coconut water, alongside children’s options. You can also order a la carte.

This Italian restaurant is tucked in all cozy in Rice Village, something of a hidden gem. For Mother’s Day, they’re saying cheers with a $25-per-person three-course menu with gluten-free and vegetarian options, and another menu for the little ones.

24. The Rustic

This mammoth country music bar, restaurant and concert venue is festive as ever with its Jam & Toast Brunch. The classic, old-school family-style brunch is $16.95 per person and set to live music. Expect Nashville-style hot chicken, the butcher chop skillet with bacon and sausage and smoked cheddar grits.

25. Verandah Progressive Indian Restaurant

3300 Kirby Street 

This tantalizing three-course, pre-fixe Chef’s Tasting Menu offers a robust selection of both vegetarian and meat dishes, from ducked stuffed cabbage on. It’s $50 per person, with an option to drink it up thanks to an extra $28 wine pairing, if you so choose. You’re free to even mix and match with a la carte mains, sides and desserts.

All seven culinary regions of Mexico come into the spotlight at Picos, with a Mother’s Day Brunch specializing in traditional faves like baby back rib carnitas, oysters on the half-shell and snapper, plus assorted moles and ceviches.
