Dallas Gets Its Own Unicorn Cafe With Sweet Treats Galore: A New Pink Haven of Instagram Dreams Brings Magic to the City’s Hottest Neighborhood

There’s another new emerging foodie hotspot in rapidly transforming Deep Ellum and it’s as mystical as it gets. Magical Dessert Bar just quietly soft opened up at 2646 Elm Street and it’s already stopping passersby in their tracks as they walk through the alleyway that connects Main and Elm Streets.

Take one look through the window and your attention is captured by millennial pink walls and stuffed unicorn animals hanging from the ceiling. There’s also a mural of a unicorn painted on the wall, making for an Instagram-worthy haven, a few pink chairs and glittery flowers and other sparkly things all over. It truly is like you just stepped into The Enchanted Forest in Gravity Falls.

But this dessert bar isn’t all just for looks.

Tasty unicorn-themed treats are eloquently displayed across the counter, begging you to snap pictures of their cute little faces. Cake in all forms – pops, cups and slices – are on the menu, as well as pink hot chocolate, milkshakes and lemonades that come in a flashy plastic lightbulb container. The lightbulb was my favorite, until I accidentally turned it upside down and spilled sticky lemonade all over myself.

OK, that was my fault, not the lightbulb’s, so it’s still my favorite.

The idea came about after Magical Dessert Bar husband and wife owners, Javi and Usman Bubar, visited Bangkok and came across a unicorn cafe there. The Bubars already own Chills 360 next door (along with 13 other Chills 360 locations in the United States) and the couple decided to bring their own unicorn paradise to Dallas.

“It was like a bucket list spot, very Instagrammable,” Usman says.

After living in Dallas for more than a decade, Usman has watched up close how much Deep Ellum has changed over the years, especially in the last year.

“I think Deep Ellum is going to be the next Uptown,” he says.

With all of the new restaurants and nightlife that are developing in the area, Dallasites are finding more and more reasons to venture over to the neighborhood.

According to Usman, “Deep Ellum has its own artistic and creative culture that shouldn’t change.” But the neighborhood’s definitely evolving.

It’s a much more unicorn friendly place now too — thanks to Magical Dessert Bar. The sweets haven will hold its official grand opening on December 21. Until then, its hours are 3pm to 10pm, but those will extend to 1pm to midnight starting on December 21st.
