One of Houston’s Top Restaurants is Shuttering for Good — Time to Say Goodbye to The Pass & Provisions

Sudden Surprising Bow Out Ends a Pioneering, Seven Year Run

The Pass & Provisions will soon be a thing of the permanent past. The pioneering double restaurant is shuttering after seven successful years on the Houston food scene.

The acclaimed spot was famed for its dual concept, a winning combination of fine dining and casual flair. But now owners Seth Siegel-Gardner and Terrence Gallivan have announced that Pass & Provisions’ last night of service will be this Saturday, May 25th.

Looking back, there were a few warning signs. Earlier this week, it was revealed that the executive sous chef of The Pass & Provisions, Steve Lanborn, would be making the move to Revival Market.

And back in April, the chef-driven restaurant’s website was updated with a message saying that The Pass would be “taking a brief hiatus,” closing for the summer only to reopen in the fall with a revitalized menu.

This may have been a longer time coming than loyal Pass & Provisions fans realize.

“Owning a restaurant is very much (to us) like having a child,” a statement from the two co-owners reads. “There’s the upfront excitement, the agony of the name, the big reveal and then the work. The ups, downs, the sweet moments and the hard ones, the tears and the smiles. Over the past seven years, from seeing the pilot lights burning in the morning to sometimes watching the dawn rise we have been honored to be a part of your celebrations, graduations, weddings, and first nights away from the baby, your drinks out with friends, awards and promotions and even more for the bad times when you just needed a place to have a drink and a good meal to cheer you up.

“You are a part of our family, which is why this part of our story is so hard to write. Saturday, May 25 will be our last day of service. Please come and say goodbye. Raise a glass with us and know that we appreciated your support. Thanks for letting us cook for you.”

Seth Siegel-Gardner and Terrence Gallivan declined to comment further, choosing to let the statement speak for itself.

Diners have a few final days to say so long to the tagliatelle and grilled Wagyu at The Pass and the white gazpacho and crispy pork ribs at Provisions.

But this is one of the more sudden, shocking and significant closings in the Houston restaurant scene in some time.
