Dr. Oz’s Partner Drops Knowledge on a Houston Medical Crowd: When Research is a Matter of Gut

BY // 10.21.18

What: The Kelsey Research Foundation Live Oak Legacy Dinner

Where: River Oaks Country Club

PC Moment: Nine members of the multi-generational Kelsey family hosted the fundraiser in honor of the late Dr. Mavis Kelsey and Dr. John Kelsey, who co-founded the non-profit in 1956 with the mission of supporting medical research and education in the Houston area.

The dinner raised more than $450,000 in support of the research efforts of the KRF-UTHealth Center for Microbiome Research, which was established in 2014 as a collaboration between KRF and UTHealth’s McGovern Medical School and School of Public Health. The center is studying the gut microbiome and its possibilities of modifying disease and improving health.

That research and gut health as the key to longevity was the focus of the discussion between guest speaker Dr. Michael Roizen, chief wellness officer at Cleveland Clinic and co-author with Dr. Mehmet Oz of YOU: The Owner’s Manual series, and Dr. Herbert DuPont, president and CEO of KRF.

Hosts: Gaye and John Kelsey, Ann and Tom Kelsey, Wendy and Mavis Kelsey, Heidi and Bob Kelsey, Virginia W. Kelsey and posthumously Margaret Wier Kelsey.

PC Seen: Scotty Arnoldy, Ellie and Jack Sweeney, Debbie and John Daugherty, Kim and Dan Tutcher, John Poindexter, Debbie Martinez, Rolanette and Berdon Lawrence, Cheri and Andy Fossler, Anne Brent, Pam Ott, and George Pond.
