20,000 Roses, Millions in Perfect Diamonds and Stunning Femmes Make This Intimate Affair Fabulous: Step Inside River Oaks’ Den of Wonder

BY // 05.19.17

Assuredly, the late Harry Winston would have given his discerning approval to the resplendent garden party luncheon that unfolded in his namesake house of diamonds in Houston’s River Oaks District. A “garden party” in an elegant, heavily guarded salon, you might ask?

Indeed. With 20,000 roses at play, augmented by bushels of hydrangeas, the setting was as glorious a garden as one might ever imagine.

Co-hosted by Harry Winston and PaperCity, the midday fete was divined as a celebration of the diamond collections inspired by nature — the Sunflower, the Lily Cluster, and the Forget-Me-Not — thereby bringing the “Winston Garden” to life. The timing was perfect as a preview to Mother’s Day, noted by Harry Winston’s dashing vice president Michael Moser, who flew in just for the luncheon. He and PaperCity’s style editor at large Francine Ballard handled the niceties of the day.

More than 40 of Harry Winston’s best clients and new friends walked the red carpet that led from the valet station to the doors of the boutique. On entry, the fashionable ladies were greeted by the heady fragrance of roses that formed lush floral arches throughout the center of the emporium and ran the full length of the single luncheon table. Interspersed along the tabletop were glass domes housing dazzling jewelry displays.

While the vitrines beckoned with priceless diamond jewelry, two models, dressed in gowns by David Peck and wearing massive floral headdresses, circulated through, discussing the diamonds that they wore. Passed around the table were a pair of large pearl earrings set off by a “smiling” diamond at the base, these created especially for the Texas market.

The whole affair was midday perfection from Richard Flowers and The Events Company‘s floral extravaganza to A Fare Extraordinaire‘s divine ladies luncheon menu and impeccable service.

Naturally, as the calendar moved through May, the femmes discussed summer travels: Greggory Burk to the Hamptons, Sheridan Willliams to Morocco, Nidhika Mehta to Laguna Beach, Jana Arnoldy and her horses to Aspen, Laura Sweeney to Europe with her youngest daughter, and on and on.

Dazzled by the Diamonds: Katie Brass, Becca Cason Thrash, Blakely Griggs, Isabel David, Estela Cockrell, Nicole Katz, Diane Lokey Farb, Melissa Grobmyer, Vanessa Sanchez, Katherine Phelps, Jo Lynn Falgout, Alicia Smith, Rini Ziegler, Joanne King Herring, Zora Spevak, and Holly Alvis.
