They’re good sports on the field, maybe even better sports off the field when the Houston Astros line up for a teammate’s charitable endeavors. Witness the turnout for George Springer‘s All-Star Bowling Benefit which boasted more than 20 Astros including owner Jim Crane and players Justin Verlander, Carlos Correa and Jose Altuve, Major League Baseball’s 2017 MVP.

In its fifth year, the fundraiser for SAY: The Stuttering Association for the Young was more impressive than ever. The crowd of 400 knew this night at Bowlmor Houston was going to be exceptional when Crane arrived with his young son, James Robert Crane II, in tow. And then there was all that eye candy — the Astros’ glamorous wives, many of whom joined the party. We can start with Charlise Springer, Amy Cole, Daniella Correa and move on from there. No, we didn’t catch sight of Verlander’s bride, Kate Upton.

The Astro-infused night raised more than $250,000 for Camp SAY, a two-week summer camp for young people who stutter. Springer is the national spokesman for Camp SAY and his fundraiser works to ensure that children from all socio-economic backgrounds have access to the camp. Special guest on this evening was SAY founder, Taro Alexander.

The night was part bowling, part dancing to the sounds of DJ Senega and completely light-hearted fun with co-chairs Lara Bell and Melissa DeAyala and junior chair Matthew DeAyala receiving kudos for the event. Carolyn Farb served as honorary chair.

Each of the teams was led by a celebrity lane captain, those notables including former Houston Dynamo Brian Ching, KTRK sports anchor Greg Bailey, KHOU Channel 11’s Ron Trevino, KTRK Channel 13’s David Nuno, Walton & Johnson radio show host Steve Johnson, Johnny Bravo Holloway, CW39’s Sharron Melton, and CultureMap columnist Ken Hoffman.

Astros on the bowling lanes: Michael Brantley, Robinson Chirinos, Alex Bregman, Wade Miley, Collin McHugh, Gerrit Cole, Josh James, Brad Peacock, Tony Kemp, Jake Marisnick, Myles Straw, Lance McCullers, Tyler White, Max Stassi, Will Harris, and coaches Gary Pettis and Brent Strom.
