Jon Bon Jovi Puts on a Private Concert in Dallas With Jerry Jones’ Family, Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Witten and More VIPs All in

This is How You Launch a Rock Star Wine Company and Music Festival

Around here, the phrase “keeping up with the Joneses” takes on a bit of a different meaning than the one that is typically affiliated with it. Rather, we see it through a far more literal lens in Dallas — as we are, literally, trying to keep up with that busy Jones family (you know, the overseers of the Dallas Cowboys dynasty) and its packed calendar of to-dos.

Take Charlotte Jones Anderson‘s schedule, for one. The daughter of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, Anderson stays busy seemingly 24/7, attending Cowboys games at AT&T stadium and promotional events at Cowboys HQ at The Star in Frisco — all while being supermom (her son is a star athlete at Highland Park High School, and Mama Anderson isn’t shy in cheering him on via social media).

But that’s just work.

Anderson, the Cowboys’ fashionable executive vice president and chief brand officer, is also a regular at New York Fashion Week (see: Tom Ford’s latest show) and a staple of Dallas’ philanthropic scene (she and her family are big supporters of The Salvation Army, among other nonprofits).

She is, no doubt, equal parts brilliant businesswoman and social butterfly — and to keep up with her pace would be nothing short of admirable.

This all leads us to Thursday night: an event of ultra-glam caliber at the Joule hotel, hosted by none other than Anderson, along with her pal Jon Bon Jovi. Yes, the rock star.

The duo teamed to launch Bon Jovi’s new Hampton Water Wine Company as it made its Texas debut and to promote next month’s KAABOO Texas festival.

More on the private acoustic concert and all the party deets in a minute. But first, a little background.

From the second we started hearing word that the Jones family was entering into the world of music festivals, we were admittedly a bit skeptical. While the Joneses have great taste and certainly know how to execute large-scale events, we wondered whether Dallas would really welcome its own music festival.

The answer is, well, sort of.

Rather than go the route of Coachella (sorry California millennial hipsters), the Jones family has taken a different, albeit more luxurious, approach for KAABOO — one more suited to a Texas sensibility, rather than a hip SoCal variation.

A More Sophisticated Music Festival

First, the format: Held at AT&T Stadium, the festival will boast six stages featuring musical, DJ, and comedy acts throughout the three-day event. But there’s more than just live entertainment.

A few examples? KAABOO also includes a contemporary art fair (perfect to match the stadium’s impressive collection of public contemporary art), culinary tastings with craft cocktails, a Las Vegas-style day club, a spa, and relaxation services. Translation: This isn’t your drug-infused, psychedelic, dusty party in the dessert.

In the PaperCity Dallas office, we’re most excited about the musical acts set to perform from May 10 through May 12. Among my must-sees are The Killers, Lukas Nelson, Lionel Richie, The Avett Brothers, and the Old 97’s.

Then there are the oh-so-many ’90s throwback acts, which have everyone in our office crying happy tears — and promptly pulling up YouTube for the sake of revisiting some of our favorite music videos. On that list of  must-sees: Ms. Lauryn Hill, Counting Crows, Alanis Morissette, Bush, and Garbage.

But back to last night.

A small circle of the city’s elite showed up — Cami and John Goff, with daughter in law Shelby Goff; our favorite news anchor MeredithLand; Fancy Nancy herself, Nancy Rogers; the brilliant man behind Headington Companies — the Joule hotel, Forty Five Ten, et al. — Tim Headington; Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki, with his wife Jessica Nowitzki; and matriarch of the Dallas Cowboys, Gene Jones — for a night that included plenty of rose, plus a to-die-for acoustic set by Bon Jovi.

The invitation referred to the eve cleverly as a First Sip — pun intended — as it formally served as a launch for the new wine into the Texas market. But to us, it was more than that, with the event proving a perfect first taste of what we can expect come KAABOO time in May.

Perhaps Mr. Bon Jovi will make a surprise appearance.
