What: Nora’s Home “Giving Back to the Future” gala
Where: Royal Sonesta Hotel
PC Moment: While casino games, DJ spins from the ’80s and, fasten your seat belts — a raffle for a stainless steel 1981 DeLorean — harkened back in time, the dance performance by iLuminate was a techno jolt to the future. All was in good fun for the evening that raised more than $650,000 to support programs that provide care and support for Texas Medical Center transplant patients and their families. And the lucky winner of the DeLorean was Shane Duckworth, a member of the Oklahoma Storm Chasers.
Taking the helm as chairs were Sippi and Ajay Khurana, who were given an assist by honorary chair Margaret Alkek Williams. The event honored the uber philanthropic Lynda Underwood and her late husband, David Underwood, who for decades served as chairman of the Texas Medical Center board.
Also in the spotlight was emcee Lisa Malosky and the Texas Medical Center’s new president and CEO Bill McKeon, who applauded the Underwoods’ generosity particularly in the medical arena.
Adding to the fun and fundraising was the live auction that included a painted-on-the-spot work by artist Taft McWhorter.
