What: Mission Olé‘s 16th annual fund-raising fête

Where: 3015 at Trinity Groves

Who: Event chair Greg Nieberding; honorary chair Katherine Wynne; CEO of Trinity River Mission Dolores Sosa Green; former TRM student Carina Torres; supporters Cindy and Gary Turner, Cliff and Gail Fischer, Maggie Kipp, Dana and John Gibson, Joanna Clarke, Paige McDaniel, Francie and Steve Mancillas, Sal Barron, Yolanda Alameda, and Scott and Linda Robins

PC Moment: Calavera Catrina stood prominently on the scene as the festive crowd descended upon the Trinity Groves event space to celebrate the 16th annual Mission Olé gala. The iconic symbol fit perfectly with the evening’s theme: Dia de los Muertos. Built on the foundation to promote literacy and encourage academic achievement to the disadvantaged youth in West Dallas, the volunteer-based community has been going strong since 1988 and continues to further its success, much in part thanks to funds raised at the annual event. (This year raked in more than $155,000 — que caliente!)

The costume-clad guests enjoyed a special folkórico performance from young TRM students before diving into some friendly competition over a live auction — jaunts to Sun Valley and suite tickets for the Dallas Cowboys kept paddles high in the air.
