It was billed as a Country Christmas, but this holiday-time fête hosted by 2019 Houston Mayoral candidate Tony Buzbee and his eponymous Buzbee Law Firm could have doubled as a campaign rally. The night at The Post Oak hotel was over-the-top in every way, beginning with a guest list of 750, packed with power politicos, newly elected officials (many with seats on judicial benches), legal sharp-shooters and a smattering of winsome socials.

High-dollar entertainment featured eight-time Grammy-winning band Asleep at the Wheel, alongside 10-time Grammy-nominated country star Jamey Johnson.

The high-steppin’ Kilgore Rangerettes also made a personal appearance, alongside the host, to literally kick off the night in inimitable Western style, worthy of an evening at the old Gilley’s, back in the day. (Shades of the Urban Cowboy film premiere too!) Yes, there was a mechanical bull on premises, and yes, guests bravely braved the bull.

Buzbee pals Tilman Fertitta (owner of the luxe Post Oak and the Houston Rockets, who really needs no intro) and country western star Clay Walker also stopped by. Fertitta took to the stage to welcome the crowd to his temple of a hotel.

Clever touches overseen by Buzbee go-to party planner Cindy Gracely of CinerGy Works included signature drinks like the vodka-infused Texas Tumbleweed and the whisky-fueled Bull Rider, and ample food stations bearing sliders, 12-hour smoked brisket, mac ‘n’ cheese and taco bars, and an opulent dessert station that filled the foyer like something out of Willy Wonka’s chocolate kingdom.

Armadillo races (the animals looked to be tame, and well fed), and a cowboy doing rope tricks added to the vibe of a shindig filled with warmth and Texas camaraderie.

As the photo booth message so buoyantly, perfectly said on the way out, “Yee-Haw Y’All from Buzbee Law Firm.”

We can’t wait to watch the Buzbee campaign unfold, which if it’s anything like this party, will interject verve and energy into next November. Read more about the marine-turned-trial lawyer and why he’s running for office here.
